Additional suggested activities for the Campfire Season of May to October

Bushwalking Campfire Tips Karaoke

We are fortunate in our part of the river that there is  dead wood available for a roaring campfire. However chainsaws are not permitted. You should only use logs small enough for you to carry. Leave the large hollow logs as important habitat for our native animals.

January: Peak period Xmas School Holidays.  River is more crowded, harder to get best mooring spots and sandbars until the last week in January. We suggest that you book up to a year ahead.

February: The River is uncrowded, beat any hot spells by picking shaded mooring sites preferably on one of our many sandbars.  You could watch the exciting, nationally acclaimed Dinghy Derby race through the creeks on the first Sunday in Feb.  Moor your houseboat the night before at the Nelbuk creek (588km mark) or Bulyong creek (584km mark) for a grandstand view from the top deck of your houseboat.

March and April: Best time for water sports with warm to hot days and cooler nights.

Ask about our Special Deals of 7 nights for the price of 5 nights for the campfire season from May 1st onwards (to Aug 31st).
Enjoy our famous Riverland winter sunshine with calm days and crisp nights. You must experience a fantastic redgum campfire at night under a brilliant star filled sky. This is the perfect time for bush walking through the many beautiful trails of the Riverland Biosphere Reserve which extends from Renmark to the Victorian border.

in May: Our glorious Autumn weather continues with calm sunny days & the extra bonus of almost no flies or mosquitoes etc. Good time for water sports (but bring your wetsuit) with warm days and cool nights.  The start of the campfire season but not every night will be cold enough.  The Riverland Hot Air Balloon Festival and the Riverland Ballroom Dance Festival are on the second weekend.in May.
On the 2-way radio you will hear the farmers grizzling that once again it looks as though the season is not going to break until June or July, but hey! we are on the edge of the desert in a very marginal cropping area.

in June: On request, we will supply Xmas decorations and a Xmas tree for an ‘Irish Xmas’.

in July: On request, we will supply Xmas decorations and a Xmas tree for ‘Xmas in July’. What about organising some theme nights such as American Independence Day on July 4th and French Bastille Day on July 14th.

in August: This is the best month for bird watching. Watch out for broods of new ducklings or emus swimming across the river. Make sure you experience the incredible dawn chorus at Wilkadene on your last morning before disembarking.

September: Still good for bird watchers...You should be able to start on an early suntan using the top decks of our houseboats without having to worry about too much exposure. Usually we are by now experiencing a higher river with more flow, for more exciting kayaking with faster downstream flows through the creeks.

October: Last chance for campfires before the fireban season starts. Combine your holiday with checking out the magnificent gardens to inspect, as part of the Renmark Rose Festival during the 3rd week in October.

November: The river is now warm enough for most people to enjoy swimming in the river and all water sports.
This is the best month of the year for fishing, as higher river flows and warmer weather keep the fish biting well. Shrimps are very plentiful so you will not have to buy worms (which tend to be preferred by carp).
Take your houseboat into Renmark during the 3rd weekend in November for a ‘ringside seat’ to view the Night Barefoot and Wakeboard Tournament.

December: Early December is still very good for fishing.  The open season for Murray Cod opens in N.S.W. at the border on Dec 1st and you are allowed one over 1 metre in length per day!
Organise your holiday to drive through Loxton at night to see the Xmas lights. Plan a week on a houseboat to end with Xmas onboard for an absolutely stress-free Xmas celebration. You will be leaving the tranquility of a houseboat holiday as the hordes of holiday makers are descending on the river.  On request we will supply Xmas decorations and a Xmas tree.

FAMILY HOLIDAYS

Fun, laughter, memories, wishes, dreams and sharing time together without the intrusions of modern day living. A houseboat holiday exploring the Murray offers all of this.

Family holidays for visiting relatives are a great way to see your own 'backyard' and we can help make yours a special time for all to remember.  We cater for :-

Babies - Cot, high chair and baby bath available.  Wilderness has one shower with the base which doubles as a baby bath.
Young Children - Kookaburra 1 and 2  have child proof railing and side gates so that children can be confined on the front deck where they can be kept under surveillance.  Innovations and Wilderness have a convertible rear area which can be used as an extra TV and Video lounge.
Older Children - Take them kayaking in our stable, light weight, Minnow 2 man kayaks at just $75 for 3 days or $110 per week.  Or go  fishing in our 3 meter dinghy (with a 15HP  motor) for hire  at $285 per week or a 3.5m dinghy with 25Hp motor at $325/wk.

For serious on the water fun, hire our 13ft (4.3 meter) dinghy with a 30HP  2 stroke motor for hire at  $425 per week.  This craft has a centre driving console & steering wheel and can  easily take 5 people.  In fact Tom tells me that it even had enough power to tow an adult behind on a hydroslide,  with  3  adults still on board.
